About Us

                Story of How We Began

Thirty-Five years ago, a group of successful businessmen saw the advantage of having a County Hospital District in Mineral Wells.  The population was flourishing in Mineral Wells at that time and the need was great.  They walked the streets and shook hands and single handedly raised enough money to completely furnish and support the building of Palo Pinto General Hospital, as we know it today.  In the 1980's they began a new mission, to build the third floor, which today is the surgical and medical ward.  Again, they succeeded in their mission.

Mineral Wells eventually fell victim to the government cuts and Ft. Wolters closed its doors for the second and final time!  The economy shifted and what was once a thriving community now became a struggling, weary community.  A little less than 14,000 residents remained in town to hold down the fort while thousands left for the big city and better opportunity.
Our group of gallant warriors, the Palo Pinto Area Foundation is their official name, stayed with our city and continued to give of themselves.  They became champions among men and saviors to the
 hospital.

Today, most of these same gentlemen comprise the Board of Directors of the Palo Pinto Area Foundation. Mr. Chester Upham, Mr. Dunman Perry, Mr. Mike Durkee, Mr. Jim Buzbee, Mr. Bill Bennett, Mr. Ken Williamson, Ms Mary Creighton and Dr. J.P. Reddy along with President, Richard Ball, have committed to guiding the Palo Pinto Area Foundation in the direction of a Capitol Campaign Fundraising effort that will continue to support and supplement the building and renovation of the 35 year old, Palo Pinto General Hospital.  They have come out of their retirement to use the tenacity that drove them to success in their own business, their knowledge to guide and develop the funds, and  their reputations to promise the privacy, distribution and direction of all funds donated to the foundation for the renovation and expansion project.  Most important to the hospital is their enthusiasm and profound recognition of the positive & successful direction Palo Pinto Area Foundation has taken.  Whether it is for themselves, family or friends; they know how important it is to have Excellence in Healthcare, that is, "Just a Heartbeat Away".

Today, Mineral Wells is  approximatly 19,000 residents BUT the treatment coverage area that Palo Pinto General Hospital assumes is close to 5,000 square miles and 86,000 people.  The need has grown, the demand has grown and the facility has expanded to meet that need, as promised.   To those directly effected by this growth, I ask you, are you prepared?   THAT MEANS EVERY MAN, WOMEN AND CHILD in and around the Palo Pinto County Area.

Hospitals are a cooperative effort of patient, doctor, and insurance re-imbursments and philanthropy.  That means, concerned citizens, who understand the need and feel the call to lend their expertise, in development and financial burden.  We would appreciate hearing of your interest in our development and need.
